What to Expect During Your Engagement Session
Planning your engagement session? Here's everything you need to know before stepping in front of the camera.
Whether you're excited or feeling a little nervous, engagement sessions are designed to be relaxed, fun, and a chance for us to get to know each other before your wedding day. After photographing hundreds of couples throughout Austin weddings, Texas Hill Country weddings, and Central Texas venues, I've found that the best photos happen when you're simply enjoying the moment together.
TL;DR
Sessions typically last 30 minutes to 1.5 hours depending on the package you choose.
No modeling experience requiredโI guide you every step of the way.
Most couples choose one casual outfit and one dressier outfit.
You'll receive your edited gallery within 2โ4 weeks.
If it rains, we'll reschedule or embrace the weather if it's just a light drizzle.
How Long Does an Engagement Session Last?
Most engagement sessions last anywhere from 30 minutes to 1.5 hours, depending on the collection you choose.
A shorter session is perfect if you'd like one location and one outfit, while longer sessions give us time to explore multiple areas or include a second outfit for more variety.
The goal isn't to rush through a checklist, it's to create space for genuine moments while giving you a beautiful variety of images.
Do We Need to Know How to Pose?
Absolutely not.
In fact, most of my couples tell me they feel awkward in front of a camera before we start.
That's completely normal.
Rather than placing you into stiff poses, I'll guide you with simple prompts and natural direction that help you interact with each other. You'll always know what to do, but it never feels forced.
This combination of guided direction and candid moments creates photographs that feel authentic, relaxed, and genuinely like you.
How Much Direction Will You Give Us?
A lot!
You never have to wonder where to put your hands or how to stand.
Throughout the session, I'll guide everything from where you're looking to how you're walking together, while still leaving room for genuine laughter, conversation, and spontaneous moments.
Think of it as having someone gently coach you through the entire experience while making it feel effortless.
What Should We Bring?
A little preparation goes a long way.
I recommend bringing:
Water, especially during warmer Texas months
A small bag for phones, keys, wallets, and sunglasses
Comfortable closed-toe shoes if we'll be walking between locations
Touch-up items like lipstick or powder if desired
Many of my favorite locations around Austin involve short walks or light hiking, so comfortable shoes can make a big difference between photo spots.
Should We Bring Multiple Outfits?
I always recommend bringing two outfits if your session allows.
A great combination is:
One casual outfit that feels like your everyday selves
One dressier outfit for a more elegant look
This gives your gallery more variety while still feeling cohesive.
If we're visiting two different locations, changing outfits can also help each location feel unique.
What Happens If It Rains?
Texas weather loves to keep us guessing.
If heavy rain is in the forecast, we'll simply reschedule your session for another date.
If it's just a light drizzle, we can absolutely chat about embracing it.
Some of the most romantic engagement photos I've ever captured happened with a little rain, cloudy skies, or misty weather.
We'll always make the decision together based on the forecast and your comfort level.
When Will We Receive Our Photos?
You'll typically receive your fully edited engagement gallery within 2โ4 weeks.
Every image is individually edited to match my signature style, ensuring your gallery feels polished, timeless, and ready to share.
What Can We Use Our Engagement Photos For?
Your engagement gallery becomes useful long before your wedding day.
Many couples use their photos for:
Save-the-date cards
Wedding invitations
Wedding websites
Guest books
Reception dรฉcor
Social media announcements
Framed artwork for their home
It's one of the best ways to celebrate this season of your life while becoming more comfortable in front of the camera before the wedding.
